An advocate promotes a cause with passion. As a Content Advocate my cause is quality content.
By content, I mean ideas, words, and pictures in a container. The container might be bigger (think website, library, curriculum, or content access architecture) or smaller (think eLearning module, training session, document, or form). By quality, I mean fulfills its purpose well.
Quality content is empowering, discoverable and meets or exceeds the needs of its target audience–enabling them to do more, faster, and with less frustration. As a content advocate, I am interested in the entire content ecosystem. I’m interested in how the containers are organized, the quality of the containers themselves, and in the quality of what’s inside.
Misty Weaver introduced me to the concept of content advocacy at a Content Strategy Seattle Meetup several years back. She said that she first heard the term from Scott Pierce, the founder of Content Strategy Seattle. I'm not sure where the etymological trail leads from there, but the idea resonated immediately. And it continued to ripple through my thinking. Here, finally, was a concept big enough to encompass all my passions.
Can the audience easily find the content?
(Architecture, Tagging, Search Engine Optimization)
Does the existing content meet their needs?
(Audience analysis, primary learner persona identification, gap analysis)
Let me help you audit, cull, organize, create, and align your content to ensure that it is working for you and not against you.
